Polymer Mechanical Testing Services

MECHANICAL TESTING SERVICES FOR POLYMER, COMPOSITE, AND ELASTOMERIC MATERIALS

Mechanical testing of polymers is used to determine the mechanical properties of a polymeric material. It can be used to evaluate a material independent of its geometry and also at defined geometrical conditions. There are a wide variety of mechanical testing methods that can be performed when evaluating a material, but the goals for testing are common:

  • Obtain material properties and characterizations for Finite Element Analysis
  • Check the quality of your cure cycle with simple tests such as tensile testing and short beam shear
  • Test different material lots or batches for comparison

There is often more than one form of mechanical test that can be used to evaluate a given mechanical property. To find out more about IMR's mechanical testing of polymers capabilities, click on the images below. To request a quote, click the button below.

IMR has load frame capabilities from 1lb up to 27,000 lbs for mechanical testing, using a wide variety of grips and extensometry.

IMR performs a variety of compression tests using ASTM based fixtures, as well as strain gaging, for the most accurate data.

IMR utilizes a variety of 3 pt. and 4 pt. bend fixtures, allowing for specimens of all sizes,  to determine material characteristics.

The purpose of the test is to assess adhesive properties or bond quality when it is undesirable to exceed the yield point of the adherend in tension.
