6 Common Chemical Analysis Testing Methods
Chromatography - by detecting and separating the anions in a solution a chromatograph is able to measure the concentration of anions and ionic species
Spectroscopy - when interacting with or emitting electromagnetic radion spectra are produced and measured
Qualitative analysis - identification of elements or groupings of elements present in a material
Gravimetric analysis - a type of quantitative chemical analysis in which mass is used to determine the amount of an ion present in a material
Quantitative chemical analysis - determination of the amount of a certain constituent within a sample
Chemical analysis of metals - determine the composition of an alloy
Chemical Analysis & Material Verification- IMR provides independent, accredited laboratory services to define the properties of metallic and non-metallic materials. We provide material verification to Nadcap, ISO-17025, OEM, and ASTM standards.

Chemical Analysis and Testing Services Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Chemical analysis refers to the process of identifying and quantifying the composition of a material. At IMR Test Labs, this involves advanced techniques like ICP-MS and spectroscopy to detect trace elements, contaminants, and overall material chemistry for industries such as aerospace and manufacturing.
A chemical analysis test determines the composition of a material by identifying and measuring its elemental or molecular content. Chemical analysis tests detect impurities, verify material specifications, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
Chromatography, Spectroscopy, Qualitative Analysis, Gravimetric Analysis, Quantitative Chemical Analysis, and Chemical Analysis of Metals.
Metals, Powders, Polymers, Composites, Coatings, Plastics, and Process Solutions, among others.
Routine testing can usually be completed in 1-3 days. More complex chemical analysis can take longer, and will be determined during the quoting process. Expedited results can be obtained with a premium charge.
Nadcap oversees testing standards for the aerospace manufacturing industry. Only labs that have been audited by Nadcap representatives are considered for certification. Auditors assess processes, documentation, skills of lab techs, quality control, and several other factors. IMR has consistently earned high marks to earn, and maintain, our accreditation.
A range of instruments are used in chemical analysis including Mass Spectrometers, X-ray Diffractometers, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, LECO analyzers, Arc/Spark OES Spectrometers, Ion Chromatographs, Microscopes, FTIR, SEM-EDS, and XRF Spectrometers.
